Type A : All – in – one
If you’re looking for a completely no-fuss option, go for all-in-one cloth diapers. These diapers are the easiest diapers to use and have the absorbent material sewn into the diaper cover. The absorbent material may contain natural or synthetic fibers. All-in-one (AIO) diapers provide both an absorbent layer and a waterproof outer shell all in one piece. You don’t need to stuff inserts, and you can toss the entire thing in the laundry when it’s soiled.
All in one diaper are just like disposables, but reusable. They are self-contained, no stuffing or folding required. They are closed with either snaps or velcro, waterproof, and come in multiple sizes to accommodate infants, babies, toddlers, and even up to early preschoolers. AIO diapers are also made in single sizes or adjustable sizes.

Type B : Pocket
Pocket diapers were a fantastic invention! They are one of the most popular types of cloth baby diapers for new parents. Pocket diaper comes with a pocket that must be stuffed with an absorbent insert. Most pocket diapers are lined in either fleece or suede cloth–which are stay-dry materials, meaning that your baby will still feel dry even when he/she is wet because the urine passes through the liner and absorbs into the insert that is inside the pocket.
These diapers are a two-part system, with a waterproof outer (usually made of PUL), and a stay-dry inside layer made of wicking materials such as micro-fleece, minlky, or suede-cloth
– Pocket diapers consist of a waterproof cover with a polyester lining that creates a pocket into which a pre-fold can be inserted, boosting its absorbency.
Type C : Fitted
Fitted cloth diapers are made of absorbent cotton, bamboo, or hemp, which have a contour shape similar to a disposable diaper, with elastic or gathered edges at the legs and back to contain messes. They are not water-proof to allow for airflow. You do not have to fold them yourself as you do with flats or prefolds, so they are ready-made to “fit” your baby’s body.
Fitted cloth diapers are fastened with snaps or velcro, hence they are great for active babies and toddlers. Fitteds feature extra layers of absorbent material and fitted leg and back elastic to keep messes in more efficiently.
It is essentially an absorbing layer that is shaped like a diaper with elastic bands around the legs and waist. When using a fitted diaper, you will need to place a diaper cover over the fitted, just like a flat/pre-fold. Fitted diapers can be made from any combination of natural or synthetic materials, some have snap-in options for more absorbency.
– When the diaper is dirty, simply remove the fitted diaper and replace it with a clean one. The cover can be used over and over again.
Type D : Prefold
Prefold diapers are those cloth rectangles you picture when you think of old-school cotton diapers. They’ve been folded and stitched with more layers in the middle to create a thicker center. Prefolds are usually held in place with a cover, which waterproofs the absorbent prefolds by containing the wetness. Prefolds are not waterproof on their own.
You’ll still need to get cloth diaper covers, the waterproof outer layer that contains the inner prefold’s wetness and mess. Prefolds can be folded around a baby and fastened with stereotypical pins or snappies, or they can be folded in a trifold and laid inside a cover.
– When the diaper is dirty, simply remove the prefold and replace it with a clean one. The cover can be used over and over again.
